FABO Story is a collaboration between a group of children’s authors designed to encourage school-aged kids to write and polish their stories.
We love working with teachers who help their students submit stories. If you’d like to participate in Fabo as part of your school activities, please let us know.
We ask kids for an email address when they submit a story, simply so we can communicate with the child if they win a prize and find out where to send it. Email addresses are not stored, shared, or distributed.
We recommend the following sites for further information on keeping your children safe online:

Please use the contact form to send us a note if you have any questions, comments or concerns.
Can indians participate?
Anybody can enter within the age parameters but countries other than New Zealand and Australia aren’t eligible for prizes.
Are you doing this again in 2017?
Hi Helen,
It’s likely, but I can’t say for sure. Our group of authors usually discusses it early in the year to make sure we’re all able to do it again, and if someone drops out, we look for a replacement.
I’ll update the website with more information as soon as we’re sure we’ll have enough authors keen to participate in 2017.
Best,
Tania.
Hi there
I just have a couple of questions before I get some of my students entering this competition.
1. Is the competition open to Yr 7&8 students?
2. Is there a limit on number of words the children can write?
Many thanks
Susie McC
Hi Susie. Kids need to be of primary or intermediate school age to enter so Yr 7 and 8 students are welcome. We prefer stories to be less than 500 words but we’re not strict about that limit. If they write more, that’s fine.
Just heard about your wonderful site. My class of year 5 and 6 students are really excited about contributing. Stand back and wait for their flood of enthusiastic responses.
Thanks so much for providing my kids with such a ‘fabo’ opportunity to share their writing.
Clare
Hi Clare. That’s great! We’re so pleased your class is getting involved, and we look forward to reading their stories. A new story starter will be posted today or tomorrow, so stay tuned!
